How Heat Pumps Work

Heat pumps operate as traditional AC units in the summer, ejecting heat from your home and cooling the inside. A heat pump’s operation is reversed during cooler weather. The heat pump extracts heat that is in the air outside, transfers it through the compressor and the condensing coil until the refrigerant gas inside reaches a superheated temperature. Then, it’s piped indoors and pumped over the indoor coil, which adjusts your home to a temperature that you select using your thermostat. Finally, an indoor air handler blows the warmed air throughout the home through the ductwork.

More Money in your Pocket

The process of transferring heat from the outside to the inside and vice versa, uses much less electrical energy than converting electricity into heat.  So, although your heat pump is constantly working all year round to keep you comfortable, your electrical usage is much less than you’d expect.  What’s more, heat pumps are always matched with back-up electrical energy or natural gas-fired, propane gas-fired or oil-fired furnaces so that when temperatures fall below the point where heat pumps begin to lose their cost advantage, back-up sources are programmed to automatically kick-in to ensure there’s no decrease in comfort.

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps function the same as air conditioners for cooling, but when heat is called for in the winter, heat pumps reverse operation to provide warmth for your home. Heating systems that heat and cool are more complicated to repair than traditional heating solutions. As an early adaptor of heat pump technology, we’ve kept abreast of technological advancements in the industry and kept our technicians fully trained on the latest practices. Our customers count on us to effectively meet all their heat pump repair needs.
