Fall has arrived, along with all of its cozy, familiar hallmarks. The Coop’s favorites? Beautiful foliage, apple cider, and the promise of Halloween candy and turkey feasts to come, just to name a few.

Well, all right. The Coop is big enough to admit it.

I love pumpkin spice.

Shameful confessions aside, the growing chill in the air reminds me that ice and snow loom on the horizon. As we all know, winter weather is the natural predator of all HVAC systems. Many heating units have fallen prey to January’s icy bite.

The good news? Some preventative maintenance can go a long way. Acting now can save your household a lot of misery later. As you sip your pumpkin spice latte (seriously, you have to try it), consider these tips.

Hoard Replacement Filters

Okay, maybe you don’t need to hoard them, but squirrels certainly have the right idea. If you have a heat pump, furnace, or any other kind of forced-air system, you’ll want to stock up on replacement filters now. Go to your nearest supply house (such as the one we have here at Cooper Mechanical) to make sure you get the right type. Before winter really sets in, install a clean filter, then change it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It’ll do wonders for your energy efficiency and extend the longevity of your system.

Schedule Preventative Maintenance

Scheduling an inspection while the leaves are still falling can save your family a lot of heartache. Take the Coop’s word for it: No one wants to lose their heat when a few feet of snow blocks their driveway. Having someone check for faults and flaws now can prevent disasters down the line.

Call the Experts

Every homeowner should schedule a preventative maintenance visit for their heating units every year.  What better time than now – before the start of the season?  Our inspections include everything your system needs to be tuned-up and ready to go.  What’s more, it will give you peace of mind so you won’t have to worry about your heat throughout the winter months. You’ll have plenty of other things to worry about during the holiday season – planning celebrations, family visits, abominable snowmen – wouldn’t it be nice to scratch this one off the list?
